Procedures: Follow these steps to complete this assignment:

First:  select a person to be the subject of your oral history; locate a photo or document to share about this person (can use multiple photos if you wish); write a brief oral history about this person using a word processing program, approximately 800-1000 words

Second: create a new account at http://voicethread.com/
three free voicethreads allowed per account; please upload an image to personalize your account profile; this can be a picture of your pet, an avatar, or a drawing (for students); an image of you (for teachers) so your peers can see who is posting and commenting on the voicethreads

Third: follow the three steps indicated:

          1. upload your photo or document,

          2. record your oral history (please use the "record" option (video or audio - or a mix) with your voice rather than the "type" option), and

          3. share the oral history

Fourth: to share your oral history, several settings are possible as discussed below...

  • first, you must set your oral history to "Public, yes comments" for your classmates to view and comment on it
  • next turn "off" comment moderation so comments can be posted without your approving them
  • next, if you would like your voicethread to remain semi-private, click "No" next to the option for listing it on browse, so only the persons who are given your voicethread link will be likely to find it
  • finally, on the other side of the screen, click the button marked "Embed" and copy the first link that appears under "Link to this VoiceThread"
  • paste the URL for your voicethread on this wiki along with your name and a short description of who your Voicethread is about
