Why Use a WCPSS Supported Wiki?

  • Tech Services has purchased a site license for PBWorks for district use - so this wiki service is free to WCPSS educators

  • Advantages for using this wiki include:

    • customize page level and folder level access to members of your wiki

    • customize color schemes

    • ability to import Microsoft Office documents as a page in the wiki (rather than attach a document to the wiki and have it open in Office)

    • Easy page, keyword, document, and username searching

    • Create template pages that can be copied and renamed

    • 40GB of storage space per wiki -- that is HUGE!

Educational Uses for a Wiki

Process to Set Up a PBWorks Wiki

There are two approaches for you to choose from to begin:

  1. create a non-WCPSS wiki by registering for a free basic edition or a $99 classroom edition

    1. You may upgrade the basic edition to the classroom edition at a later date by filling out the Upgrade Free PBWorks Workspace (Wiki) form (via a school network computer)

      1. You will simply complete the online form, including copying and pasting the URL for your existing basic edition wiki in the space provided on the form

  2. create a WCPSS-supported classroom edition wiki

    1. Visit the intranet from a school-based computer: http://www2.wcpss.net/ (will not work outside WCPSS network)

    2. Choose Business Applications in the tool bar at the top of the page

    3. Scroll down to the bottom of the column on the right; find and choose the link for Wikis (PBWorks)

    4. From the Workspace Basics column on the left, choose Request a New Workspace (Wiki)

      1. From a WCPSS-based computer, networked to the intranet page choose Request a New Workspace (Wiki)

      2. Fill out the online form, including creating a creative name for your new workspace (wiki)
